The teaser of Voot Select’s new suspense thriller series ‘Candy‘ is out and it’s all things mystery. After some amazing binge-worthy content by the streaming platform, their latest web show features Richa Chadha and Ronit Roy in the lead along with Gopal Dutt, Manu Rishi Chadha and Riddhi Kumar in supporting roles. Directed by Ashish R. Shukla and produced by Optimystix Entertainment, the plot of ‘Candy’ centers around drugs and murder, with a hint of politics and is all set to premiere next month. The intense background music and catchy undertones gives a feeling that this series will not disappoint.
The show is apparently set in a boarding school in a misty town amidst the hills and follows a series of ghastly murders related to the candy-like drug, from where the show gets its name. Actor Gopal Dutt, last seen in the SonyLiv series ‘Kathmandu Connection’ will be seen here again in an important role. Although we are used to seeing him bring in a comic angle, the actor earlier said that his role will come as a surprise to fans. The makers released the teaser earlier today, with the tagline, ‘Unwrap the Sin’. Both lead stars, Richa and Ronit took to Instagram as well to share the teaser of the new show. Director Shukla has previously directed last year’s famous SonyLiv web series ‘Undekhi’, ‘Bahut Hua Sammaan’ and the movie ‘Prague’ in 2013.
Ronit Roy, speaking about his role as a teacher in the series, said earlier in an interview, “I’ve been lucky to have had the chance to work with so many talented directors which has helped my learning curve tremendously. With the advent of the digital entertainment era there is so much good work for everyone and so many people are doing such good work it’s heartening and inspiring. I feel immense opportunities exist and will grow further. I am proud that I have been a part of some fantastic OTT shows and now I am extremely excited and waiting to start work on Candy.” He further added, “Kudos to the entire team of Voot Select for coming up with such a strong concept. My role is complex and challenging, which just makes it all the more interesting. I have a feeling this is going to be a very exciting ride and can’t wait to share this piece with you.”
Richa Chadha, also excited about her role as a police investigator said, “What drew me towards the script was the various dimensions to my role in the show. This thriller/psychological horror space is new for me. Playing characters with depth is something that has always interested me and this was the perfect opportunity. Of course, working with someone like Ronit is very exciting, as this will be the first time that I will be sharing screen space with him as well as other brilliant actors like Nakul Sahdev, Manu Rishi. I am also excited to collaborate with director Ashish Shukla, as he was one of the first people I met from the industry, from the beginning of my career”.
