Rosario Dawson, the protagonist of the live-action Star Wars Ahsoka series, has shared some intriguing details about her character arc in the forthcoming Season 2. Taking place after the events of the Star Wars Rebels animated series, the live-action Ahsoka series focuses on the protagonist’s attempts to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn (stranded in an unknown distant galaxy) from returning and rejoining the Galactic Empire to crumble the newly formed New Republic.
In her recent appearance at FAN EXPO Canada, Dawson shared interesting details about Ahsoka Season 2 and discussed her character arc in detail. This is what she said:
“I really liked that kind of spunky energy she had when she first came on the scene. I know that rubbed some people the wrong way, but I really dug that. Natasha very much has that spirit and form. So, I would really like to be able to play with that a little bit. But I love it because Dave compares the sort of evolution of Ahsoka very much in the frame of Gandalf. And it’s incredible to experience someone with that kind of level of expertise and power still have places to evolve to and transform to, and as he does it, he becomes lighter, and the spirit, and there’s more smiles.”
Ahsoka’s arc in the live-action Disney+ series was certainly different and a lot more exciting to watch compared to The Clone Wars and Rebels. Showrunner Dave Filoni himself helmed the show’s Episode 5, titled “Part Five: Shadow Warrior”, which changed the way Ahsoka looked at herself all these years.
That episode showed Ahsoka reliving her memories of her youth during the Clone Wars under Anakin’s guidance. She questions her position as a Jedi and her legacy as Anakin’s student, who himself fell to the Dark Side and reemerged as the Sith lord Darth Vader. After they stop fighting, Ahsoka comes to terms with all her doubts, anger, and insecurities and decides to continue living her life. As Ahsoka arrives in real life, we see her donning white robes which look very different from her original grey robes during The Clone Wars.
This change in Ahsoka’s robes teases her transformation into a Jedi Knight from a padawan. With the Jedi Order no longer functioning, maybe Episode 5 was Filoni’s way of confirming the protagonist’s ascension to the rank of Jedi.
Ahsoka remained Anakin Skywalker’s padawan up until the fifth season of The Clone Wars. Due to her inability to trust the Jedi Order, she quit the order before passing her trials to become a full-fledged Jedi Knight. Yes, she was one of the few survivors of Order 66. But she never considered herself as a Jedi.
Now, Ahsoka Season 2 will show Anakin’s former padawan in her full-fledged Jedi form. However, she is still stranded on Peridea with Sabine Wren and Anakin’s force ghost. But it will be interesting to see how she manages to come out of Peridea along with Sabine to stop Thrawn in the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates.
