Veteran media personality Pritish Nandy and his talented daughters Rangita and Ishita Nandy are back with another offering for the OTT space. Their production company Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd. is producing a new show, titled ‘Royals’, this time for Netflix. The company has earlier produced shows Four More Shots Please! and Modern Love Mumbai for Prime Video India.
Netflix’s ‘Royals’ is super interesting for several reasons. The primary reason is that it will mark the acting comeback of veteran actress Zeenat Aman, tipped to play a key role in Royals. Next is the presence of stellar actress Bhumi Pednekar, who will make her web series debut with Royals. The actress had earlier made her OTT debut with Netflix film, ‘Bhakshak’. Royals will be the first time Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in a series.
Ishaan Khatter, Sakshi Tanwar, Chunky Panday and Milind Soman are reportedly also playing pivotal roles in Royals. The series is a tongue-in-cheek look at the erstwhile royal families of Rajasthan. The series is said to be made on a scale as lavish as Netflix’s The Crown. The difference is that The Crown was based on real life events while Royals is a blend of fact and fiction. Another key difference is that The Crown was a historical drama, while Royals will be a satirical comedy, with hints of romance.
As per sources in the know, Bhumi Pednekar is playing a hot shot entrepreneur in the series. The narrative of Royals will oscillate between the past and present, as it attempts to dive deep into what makes the Royals tick.
Four More Shots Please director Nupur Asthana, and The Night Manager’s Priyanka Ghose are said to be sharing directing duties for Netflix’s Royals. The news was first reported by media publication, Mid-Day.
