RRR apart from being a historical film is also a historic film. The box office records, the unprecedented response and brilliant VFX is a great example as to how an Indian film can be a global sensation.
Last month Binged reported how Gangubai Kathiawadi emerged as the first Indian film to secure the number one position in most-watched non-English film globally. We also reported that it is the most successful Indian film on Netflix.
Now the monopoly is challenged. RRR has become only the second Indian film to do the same magic.
RRR was released on Netflix on 20th May and in its second week, the film did this magic. However, Gangubai Kathiawadi did so in its debut week.
The film is benefiting from insane word of mouth all across the globe. Many Americans are enjoying the film in re-release and also on Netflix.
Had other south Indian languages, especially Telugu been on Netflix then it would emerge as an even grander success. Unfortunately, we don’t get any such data from any other major platform so that we could judge the performance of any film.
Regardless, it is a huge feat for Indian films and RRR is indeed taking Indian Cinema on a global scale.
