This Pongal/ Sankranti 2022 festive season is shaping up to be an even bigger blockbuster fest than Ganesh Chaturthi was. Post the announcement of the reopening of theatres in Maharashtra, all major filmmakers have blocked festive occasions for their films’ release dates. Four high profile southern films have locked their release on the occasion of Pongal/ Sankranti and the latest entrant to this is none other than pan-India sensation ‘RRR’, that has been trending with news of its release.
Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati’s Telugu film ‘Bheemla Nayak‘ hits screens on 12th January 2022, a couple of days before Sankranti. Next, Mahesh Babu’s Telugu biggie ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ arrives in cinemas on 13th January 2022. Prabhas’ pan-India, multi-lingual ‘Radhe Shyam’ hits theatres on 14th January 2022, on the auspicious date of Sankranti. Finally, Ajith Kumar’s much-awaited ‘Valimai‘ has also grabbed the lucrative Pongal 2022 date for its release. As though this wasn’t enough, comes the news of ‘RRR’ also locking this festive season for its release.
Reportedly, the date fixed for the release of ‘RRR’ is 12th January and an official announcement is expected sometime this week. Directed by SS Rajamouli, ‘RRR‘ is an upcoming Telugu period action drama featuring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR, along with Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. This Pan-India film marks the ‘Baahubali’ director’s first collaboration with both Bollywood actors. It is but natural that all major dates in the near future will see big box-office clashes since many films have completed shooting and are waiting to release. Only time will tell if they eat into each other’s business.
