Digital viewers are legit delighted with the news that S. S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster extravaganza ‘RRR’ is finally coming on OTT soon. ZEE5 announced the happy news on their social media handles. For those who don’t know, ‘RRR‘ will stream on ZEE5 on May 20.
It’s to be noted that RRR will stream on ZEE5 only in the South languages of Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. This is because ZEE5 has bought the streaming rights of only the South versions of the film. The Hindi, English and foreign language rights for RRR are with Netflix. The latter hasn’t announced any OTT release date for RRR in Hindi yet.
Now, before audiences get euphoric about RRR streaming on OTT, know that there’s a catch. RRR will stream on ZEE5 from the 20th of May, but only in the pay-per-view model. That means audiences will have to pay a certain amount by way of rent to watch the film. ZEE5 hasn’t revealed the rent for watching RRR on its VOD platform yet. As per our estimates, the cost to watch RRR on pay-per-view on ZEE5 will likely be in the range of ₹199 to ₹349.
Those who don’t want to pay and watch RRR on OTT will have to wait for a little while longer. ZEE5 will make RRR free to watch after a certain period of time.
This is just a way of ZEE5 to make the most of its investment in buying the streaming rights of RRR. This way the platform can earn moolah, as well as attract subscribers.
For those who want to watch RRR in Hindi before it comes to Netflix, be aware that RRR in Hindi will stream on Bms Stream from the same day as its South versions – that is May 20. RRR in Hindi will be available as pay-per-view on Bms Stream for ₹349.
RRR in Hindi will stream for free on Netflix at a later date, after the VOD deals for the film have run their course.
