SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR is now ruling the Indian OTT space. It is a dual release where the Hindi audio is released on Netflix while Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions are streaming on Zee5.
Netflix has published the viewing stats for the past week and they are stunning. Despite a mono language release and only 3 days of runtime (in data), the film came out to be the champion in India.
As you can see, RRR started streaming on 20th May and just within 3 days, surpassed all the views but it was pretty much expected. It was followed by Jersey which was released on the same date but a few hours earlier.
Interestingly, there are only three foreign films which appeared in the film and it is a good sign nonetheless.
The film garnered a super strong word of mouth amongst the non-Indian community and it is clear in more detail. Not only the film was celebrated in India but also in Mauritius, Bahrain, Bangladesh, UAE, Singapore and more.
The marketing strategy of not only Netflix India but globally also worked out well. The official account of Netflix posted a dedicated tweet in promotion of RRR which is quite unprecedented for any Indian film.
Had all languages, especially Telugu, been released on Netflix then it would be an exceptional feat because the original language advantage is incomparable.
But the views are still great nonetheless.
