The rumour about Marvel Studios showing interest in developing a female-led series based on the events of the Iron Fist series have spread like wildfire on social media. This comes after Marvel recently canonized all six Netflix shows, making them an official part of the MCU.
Prominent movie scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed that Marvel plans to develop a female-centric Iron Fist series. Apart from having a female lead, the rumoured project could come out in an animated version. Moreover, it would feature the return of Finn Jones’ Danny Rand. However, he is expected to have a cameo appearance in this one. Many have speculated that the project could focus on Colleen Wing, played by Jessica Henwick in the Iron Fist series.
In the comics, Colleen belongs to a Japanese family whose ancestors were daimyos and samurai. It was her grandfather, Kenji Ozawa, who taught her the ways of a samurai. Upon growing up, she becomes Iron Fist’s ally. Over the years, comic book fans have witnessed Colleen encountering popular Marvel characters like Master Khan, Angar the Screamer, Davos, the Steel Serpent, and more. She has also worked with Spider-Man, the X-Men, Sunfire, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Shang-Chi, Misty, and more in the comics.
Both seasons of Iron Fist were critical failures. Season 1 has a ‘rotten’ 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 85 reviews). Season 2, while being a significant improvement over its predecessor, also turned out ‘rotten,’ with a 55% rating (based on 47 reviews). Plus, we cannot ignore the present pathetic condition of the MCU. It will be interesting to see what kind of story Colleen Wing will get, considering everything that has happened with the original Iron Fist series.
