Rumour: Sony Wanted Andrew Garfield & Tom Holland For Madame Web

It seems like Sony is desperate to destroy Spider-Man and everything that touches the superhero character. According to a new rumour, Sony’s forthcoming Madame Web had to undergo several reshoots after discovering many plotholes and continuity errors. In addition, the studio tried to include Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in the project.

The rumour originated through Jeff Sneider, a prominent Hollywood reporter, and scooper. He is best known for his outlet, The InSneider. He talked about the rumour in the latest episode of The Hot Mic podcast (hosted by John Rocha).

Sneider disclosed that Sony wanted Andrew Garfield in Madame Web. In addition, the movie was originally supposed to have a storyline taking place in the 90s. In that storyline, Adam Scott was set to play Uncle Ben, and his involvement as Peter Parker’s uncle somehow shared a connection with Garfield’s Spider-Man. Later, they shifted their attention towards the inclusion of Tom Holland for unknown reasons. However, Madame Web’s team took some time to realise that they made a huge error in the film’s storyline as it did not align with the present MCU timeline.

This is not the first time Sony has tried to connect SSU’s events with the MCU. How can we forget the great Morbius? That horrendous Jared Leto starrer tried to do the same by adding Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes (Vulture) into its mid-credits scene. Toomes blames Spider-Man for getting transported into Michael’s universe and later gives him an offer to form a team with him. That scene made no sense at all as we, to this date, don’t know what happened with Toomes after the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming. His unexpected arrival in Morbius seemed like a desperate attempt from Sony to share a connection with the MCU.

Madame Web has reportedly undergone many reshoots. It means fans won’t see the original storyline in the upcoming SSU project. Makers have reportedly removed all the Spider-Man references and a particular year from the film’s storyline. It stars Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Adam Scott, and Tahar Rahim. It will arrive in theatres globally on February 14, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
