Marvel’s obsession with celebrity cameos is here to stay. The latest confirmed ‘surprise’ appearance would be that of Academy Award winner Russel Crowe’s mystery role in the upcoming Thor sequel: ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Speculations are ripe that Russel Crowe may be seen playing the role of either an elderly King Thor or Zeus, but nothing is confirmed yet.
The news was leaked after the Australian actor was seen hanging out at a Rugby league match in Australia with the cast of Marvel’s fourquel ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, with the handsome hunk Chris Hemsworth reprising the titular role of the God of Thunder.
Set for a May 2022 release and currently under-production in Australia, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ would be the fourth film of the Thor universe and released under the ambit of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Previously, ‘The Martian’ actor Matt Damon, which had made a fun cameo in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, will reportedly reprise his role in Thor’s sequel. Besides Damon, ‘The Hunger Games’ actor Luke Hemsworth and Sam Neill (of Jurassic Park’s fame) are also set to reprise their roles from ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. Rumour mills are also speculating the return of Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster character.
While Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster would reportedly be upgraded from just being Thor’s love interest to ‘Mighty Thor’, Christian Bale would be playing the main villain: ‘Gorr The God Butcher’ in the movie. Bale was last seen as an American car driver in James Mangold’s sports-drama ‘Ford vs Ferrari’ and gained popularity in Christopher Nolan’s version of ‘Batman’, incidentally a creation of DC Comics universe – Marvel’s most formidable adversary.
Since Chris Hemsworth’s character was last seen teaming up the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ members in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and considering the fresh ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy’ angle shown at the end, it would be amusing to see Chris Patt’s (as Peter Quill, an intergalactic outlaw) quirky chemistry with Chris Hemsworth.
