Russell Crowe has announced his upcoming movie ‘The Exorcism’ and this is his second Exorcism related movie after ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ which came out in 2023. The rights for the movie have been acquired by ‘Vertical’.
‘The Exorcism’ will be telling the story of an actor named Anthony Miller who is shooting for a supernatural thriller movie and who is at the verge of losing his sanity. The actor’s daughter tries to find out if there are some sinister forces that are acting against his father. The title of the movie reminds us of the 1973 horror masterpiece ‘The Exorcist’ by William Friedkin. During the shooting of The Exorcist, there were some supernatural events reported by the cast and crew members. ‘The Exorcism’ also relates to Crowe’s last film ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’.
This is a wonderful time to be a horror fan. And when Robert Eggers is bringing out his own ‘Nosferatu’, we should talk about Willem Dafoe and his ‘Shadow Of The Vampire’. Shadow Of The Vampire told the story of a Max Schrader who was casted as a vampire in Murnau’s classic expressionist film ‘Nosferatu’. Max Schrader was actually a mysterious man and known to very few people, and creating a Vampire out of him to enhance the thrill of storytelling is one of a kind. This type of meta-storytelling is not seen much nowadays, and not at all in the genre of horror.
But Russell Crowe’s ‘The Exorcism’ shows the promise and the plot details and subject makes us hope that we might probably get the ‘Shadow of The Vampire’ of our generation now.
