If you missed out watching ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ in theaters, no worries. The movie will be available to stream on Netflix soon. Russell Crowe is definitely one of the greatest actors of our times and his comeback with a horror thriller was surprising for fans. It premieres on Netflix on July 7th.
Russell Crowe plays a priest named Father Gabriele Amorth who tries to help a little child with exorcism in the movie. He is a strong exorcist and is determined to stop Satan from carrying out his evil plans. The priest gets into trouble and he has to answer to higher authorities of the church about his actions regarding the cases of exorcism.
‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ is directed by Julius Avery. Apart from Russell Crowe, it has actors like Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero in other important roles. The story is written by Michael Petroni, R. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings and the screenplay is written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos. The cinematography is handled by Khalid Mohtaseb and he has done a nice job there.
The film is inspired from Gabrielle Amorth’s book ‘An Exorcist Tells His Story’ and ‘An Exorcist: More Stories’. Well yes, it can be pretty shocking that Gabrielle Amorth was an actual historical figure. But there is much doubt about whether his memoirs are true or not. But what do we have to do with the truth? We want horror. And The Pope’s Exorcist is a pretty good horror movie. Though the genre is a bit overdone, Russell Crowe makes it interesting with his performance and the movie is pretty nice for a one time watch. Watch it on Netflix when it releases on the 7th of July.
