Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to appear in Shawn Levy’s untitled Star Wars movie, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Both Deadline and Variety have also corroborated the report.
Gosling’s interest in the project has reportedly accelerated it, making it the next Star Wars film to enter production after The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to premiere on May 22, 2026. If all goes according to plan, this collaboration between the Barbie actor and Levy could arrive in theatres by 2027.
Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has confirmed the news yet.
According to THR, filming could begin as early as this fall. The movie is also set to become Levy’s next feature project following the record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
It is still unclear which role Gosling might play. Interestingly, the actor was among the frontrunners for the role of Kylo Ren in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015). Now, nearly a decade later, he is finally poised to join the galaxy far, far away.
According to some reports, the upcoming Gosling-Levy collaboration will have no connection to the Skywalker saga. This sounds exciting, as it keeps us guessing about Gosling’s character and the movie’s storyline, promising a sense of freshness and originality—something the upcoming Star Wars movies could greatly benefit from.
Gosling’s potential involvement in Star Wars would mark a significant departure from the franchise’s usual casting approach. While Star Wars rarely features A-list actors, Gosling has proven his ability to thrive in high-profile franchises, such as Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi masterpiece.
Gosling is undoubtedly an intriguing choice. His star power will likely draw more attention to the Star Wars franchise, which could use a boost when it comes to its movies. Stay tuned for more updates.
