S2 Of ‘The Peripheral’, ‘A League of Their Own’ Cancelled At Amazon

Earlier this year, Amazon Prime Video had renewed its two shows namely the sci-fi drama ‘The Peripheral’ and the comedy drama ‘A League of Their Own’. Both these series were given a thumbs-up by critics and audiences alike, with an impressive 79% and 95% critics’ scores on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes.

However, in spite of both these shows getting positive feedback and second season renewals, ‘The Peripheral’ and ‘A League of Their Own’ will not be getting their next seasons at Prime Video. And the reason for the revoke? It is because of the ongoing dual strikes by writers and actors happening in the US. It’s because of the length of these WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes which would have adversely affected the show’s production, their targeted release dates, and the resulting scheduling conflicts.

The dual strikes and the consequent delay for the show’s production schedule would have particularly affected ‘A League of Their Own’ since it’s a period show and making such a project with a period setting is undoubtedly a costly affair. Adapted from the 1992 hit film of the same name, the basic plot of the show revolves around the story of World War-II All-American professional women’s baseball league.

And about ‘The Peripheral’, the sci-fi mystery drama series features Chloë Grace Moretz in the role of a woman who finds out a secret connection with an alternate reality and her own future after testing a video game. But that puts both her and her loved ones in imminent danger.

Moreover, as per the buzz, ‘The Peripheral’ and ‘A League of Their Own’ might not be the only shows which won’t be moving forward with their next seasons. More casualties may be on the way if the strikes do not stop, and if the situation is not resolved in the near future. That remains to be seen.
