The intense trailer of Saani Kaayidham left everyone stunned. The film having Keerthy Suresh and K Selvaraghavan in the lead role was extremely violent and it was just the trailer.
The film is now released and features gut-wrenching violence which is not recommended for everyone.
If you or anyone you know is interested in western films then you must have heard the name of Quentin Tarantino. He is a mega-popular director whose impact on cinema is exceptional, at least in his generation of filmmakers. Classics such as “Reservoir Dogs”, “Pulp Fiction”, and “Kill Bill” are all the products of his genius and even great dramas like Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained and more.
One thing you find common in his films is intense stomach-turning violence. They are extremely horrifying but Tarantino knows certain magic that the audience enjoys and even laughs at them.
It is not just him but several other filmmakers who use violence as a form of art.
In India however, we do not have many great examples of the same. The mainstream cinema never makes intensely gory films and the ones which are made remain restricted to a small group of cinephiles.
But Saani Kaayidham is trying to break that shell. It has a star as prominent as Keerthy Suresh and it is a part of mainstream Tamil cinema. It’s just been a few hours of release and it is gaining mixed reactions.
It looks as if the director wanted the film to sell solely on violence as there is nothing substantial in it. Twitteratis have gone into a frenzy over the extensive gore and the reception of this film can be a milestone.
Is India ready to accept intensely violent movies in mainstream cinema?
