It seems like Salma Hayek Pinault is in no mood to slow down. After her ground-breaking come-back turns in “Eternals” and “House of Gucci”, she is all set to reprise the role of Kitty Softpaws in the long running, much awaited “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”, sequel to the 2011 Spanish speaking American film “Puss in Boots” which also starred Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas who played the titular Feline.
Salma Hayek not only reunites with Antonio Banderas, but also is joined by Harvey Guillén of “What We Do in the Shadows” fame in the role of Perro, Kitty and Puss’ dog associate.
Deadline reports that, besides these three big names, we have a whole wow-worthy A-list ensemble cast curated for the Puss in Boots Sequel. Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Wagner Moura, Ray Winstone, John Mulaney, Da’Vine Jou Randolph, Anthony Mendez and Samson Kayo form the rest of the cast.
The original film was a “Shrek” spinoff following Puss’ adventures before his debut appearance in “Shrek 2”. Produced by Dream Works Animations and distributed by Paramount Pictures, Made on a budget of not more than $149 million, Puss in Boots made close to $500 million worldwide.
Talks surrounding a Puss in Boots have been running around since 2014. Tentatively titled “Puss in Boots 2: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves”, Dream Works Animations already had a November release date set that year for the sequel. However there were repeated delays and the project fell through due to restructuring at the studio. It was only until August 2020, the project saw the light again at the studio, with major changes happening followed by a revamped title ” Puss in Boots: The Last Wish ” finally setting a release date in September 23,2022 with Banderas returning.
Distributed by Universal Pictures, “The Last Wish” has Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado act as director and co-director respectively with Mark Swift producing. The trailer of the project is supposed to be out today. For now have a look at the first look dropped by deadline.
