Talking about classics in the superhero genre, Spider-Man will always be up there as one of the best that has ever existed. And like all good things, fans bid it farewell with tears and can’t seem to get over it, so the studios are determined to take their money and give them one more installment of the franchise.
Now, from a fan’s perspective, the pairing of Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi is definitely a must-see one, and for a long time now, rumors have been swirling about an upcoming Spider-Man 4 sequel. Additionally, just to provide some perspective, Sony is already invested in Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man movie.
Though it seemed irresistible to not give Maguire another run in the franchise, Sony previously rejected the idea and opted for a reboot with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.
To talk numbers, the Maguire trilogy was a big hit, and Sony can definitely bet on that. They will earn big bucks. But what is Raimi saying about the rumors?
“Well, I haven’t heard about that yet. I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with the current ‘Spider-Man’ movies, and the track record there, and I don’t know if they’re going to go back to me and say, ‘Well, folks, we can also tell that story!’”
“I haven’t talked to Tobey about [a fourth movie with me], but maybe Marvel has or Columbia Pictures,” Raimi added. “I just worked with Marvel on a movie called ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ So, I’m on great terms with them. I’m sure I would hear about it if it was in the works.”
And as it looks, Sam Raimi is really interested in making the fourth installment, at least he showcased some positive interest about Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. And as for Sony’s Spider-Man universe, they definitely need some help from someone established.
“I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a ‘Spider-Man’ movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”
