Sam Richardson to Return in Apple TV+ “The Afterparty” Season 2?

The popular and critically raved multi-genre format whodunnit created, directed and executive produced by award-winning Christopher Miller was a fresh take on murder-mystery with comedy infused to it. Without divulging about the plot of Season two, Producers Chris Miller nar Phil Lord hinted Variety about the possible return of Sam Richardson’s ‘Aniq’.

The Afterparty, a genre-bending series follows a high school reunion’s afterparty that ends with a shocking death. All the alumni attendees are suspects and Detective Danner (played by Haddish) shows up to investigate the case. As the investigation processes, the show handles the case in a Rashomon-esque format detailing the point of views of all suspects with different film genres employed to narrate each perspective.

Earlier it was announced that Tiffany Haddish’ Detective Banner will return but no other details regarding the casting or plot was made. But when Variety asked Miller if Sam Richardson would reprise his role, Miller smiled.

He said “There will be returning actors beyond Tiffany and a whole bunch of new folks as well.” He also added “A whole new murder. Different shenanigans. Different film styles. We do have a dog in it — that’s a spoiler, but there is a dog.” So now we have a confirmation on the show retaining not only some of it’s original cast members, but also the multi-genre story telling format.

Richardson also evidently couldn’t hide his excitement. He added “It feels like it should happen,” after talking about a season 1 finale scene where Aniq offers help to Detective Danner in solving another mystery. “I don’t know. I hope it does.” He added. Well we know what’s cooking in there, Richardson. This is more than enough a big hint for the fans now. Stay tuned.
