Sankranti was great for the Telugu Cinema. The festival came with double delight for cinemagoers as they had a variety of options to enjoy on the big screens. There was Daaku Maharaj that became a decent box office puller. However, the real monster was Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, starring Venkatesh. The movie became a huge blockbuster and collected over 250 crores. Thanks to the support of the family audience, this became possible.
However, the film has chosen a weird route for OTT.
Normally what happens?
A film comes on OTT after finishing its theatrical release and then it goes to TV. Now this movie will perhaps do the opposite. The TV release is finalised on ZEE Telugu and it is coming soon. However, there is no update from ZEE5 for the OTT release.
So what is happening?
ZEE is trying to repeat the same formula that made Sankranthiki Vasthunnam a blockbuster on the big screens. You see, TV is still a more powerful uniting force than OTT. OTT is more of an individual screen while TV is a family screen. Perhaps this is the reason it is happening.
