The long-rumoured SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off film, Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, has found a release window on Netflix. The project was supposed to come out in 2023 but got delayed due to unknown reasons.
‘Saving Bikini Bottom’ is based on the iconic Nickelodeon TV show, SpongeBob SquarePants. In the upcoming spin-off, our favourite town, Bikini Bottom, gets scooped out of the ocean out of nowhere. This scenario forces the duo of Sandy and SpongeBob to go on an epic quest to the former’s home state of Texas, and seek her family’s aid to save Squidward, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, and the rest of the gang. Liza Johnson has helmed the spinoff. She is best known for her work in hit shows like A Series of Unfortunate Events, Dead to Me, and The Last of Us.
The spinoff’s cast consists of talents like Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Doug Lawrence (Plankton), Johnny Knoxville (Randy), and more.
Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli have co-executively produced the film, with Tom and Kaz Stern serving as its writers.
