For those of you who recently binge-watched Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix and are hoping to get a second season, prepare yourself for this heartbreaking news. Showrunners O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski have revealed that they have no intention of extending the series to Season 2.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, O’Malley and Grabinski discussed the possibility of Season 2 in detail. “We’re not working on it. We have no official ideas. We put everything we had into this, and we think it has a really great ending that we’re proud of. I don’t make any plans in general. Maybe someday one of us will text each other an idea that’s really great for a Season Two. But for now, my entire brain and heart is in this thing, and just getting it out into the world,” Grabinski said.
When it comes to Netflix, it is hard to believe that a hit show is not getting a sophomore entry. We know how the streaming giant likes to bestow multiple seasons from its hit projects. It is not like the makers are facing a lack of source material. O’Malley’s main graphic novel series consists of six volumes, which ran from August 2004 to July 2010. It means that Netflix can easily churn out at least two to three more seasons for viewers. The choice of quality over quantity seems like the obvious reason behind the showrunners’ decision to restrict future seasons.
But if we look at this scenario from the fans’ perspective, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Season 2 would totally work, given how the debut season has performed in terms of critical reception and viewership. Season 1 currently stands at a ‘fresh’ 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 46 reviews. Netflix has renewed numerous projects that were less enjoyable than the latest Scott Pilgrim entry. So, we should not ignore the possibility of Season 2 arriving on Netflix in future.
Consisting of eight episodes, Season 1 of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is available on Netflix. It treasures the original cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010). Stream it now! Stay tuned for more updates.
