Time and again, Netflix has proved that it is leading the OTT– platform game with its production of quality originals across diverse genres and languages. Showing once again who’s the boss, two originals, See you Yesterday and Maria, are all set to premiere on Netflix this May 17. While See you Yesterday, completely shot in the US, is an English film set in the sci-fi space, Maria promises to be a kick-ass action film in Filipino (the official language spoken in the Philippines).
See You Yesterday, from what the promos have to offer, is about two teenagers whose latest invention is a backpack that enables time travel. However, their idea backfires when one of the teenagers lose their brother in an encounter. At the same time, the film directed by Stefen Bristol seems to have enough scope for family drama and unique twists associated with the theme surrounding time-travel. At 80 minutes, the length works to be alright too.
On the other hand, Maria is stuff that every action-enthusiast would look out for. When a female gangster/assassin Lilly is denied an opportunity to start a new life with her beloved after a tryst with a series of crimes, her boss tries every means to destroy her and her ambition. While she escapes unhurt, her family is shattered. How she assumes a new identity and seeks revenge against her boss forms the plot of this actioner. The action appears slick with a heavy dose of martial arts stuff packed into the narrative, helmed by Pedring Lopez. Well, what more could a movie enthusiast hope for? Cinephiles, block your dates for May 17.
