Vinil Mathew’s romantic thriller Netflix movie ‘Haseen Dillruba’ starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey had caught the attention of many OTT viewers after it was released on the streaming platform last year in the month of July. The unconventionally executed murder mystery film went to become the most watched Hindi language movie on Netflix in 2021. And now, after more than a year since its release, it is being reported (via Mid-Day) that a sequel to ‘Haseen Dillruba’ is currently in the works.
As per the report, the script for the ‘Haseen Dillruba’ sequel is currently being written. The parent film’s writer – the immensely talented Kanika Dhillon is said to be working on the sequel’s plotline which will take the story forward after the first film’s flabbergasting climactic revelation. Previously, Kanika Dhillon had lent her writing skills to several films such as SRK’s ‘Ra.One’, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Manmarziyaan’, and ‘Guilty’. Her forthcoming projects include Aanand L. Rai’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’.
The parent film ‘Haseen Dillruba’ revolved around a husband’s (Vikrant Massey) murder investigation by the police where the wife (Taapsee Pannu) becomes the prime suspect, and her description of their problematic marriage adds further layers of mystery around the case. The film also featured Harshvardhan Rane in an important role.
Haseen Dillruba’s lead actress Taapsee Pannu is a busy star nowadays. Her forthcoming movies include the sports biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dobaaraa’, Ajay Bahl’s ‘Blurr’, ‘Who Ladki Hai Kahan’, and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, amongst other projects.
