Series Adaptation of Shawn Levy’s Real Steel in the Works at Disney+

In great news for fans of Hugh Jackman starrer 2011 science fiction boxing drama movie ‘Real Steel’, the parent film’s director Shawn Levy is reportedly involved in a Disney Plus series based on the immensely popular movie. However, as of now, things are in the early stages of development.

The entertainment giant is currently on the lookout for an appropriate writer for the show who could do justice to the original film’s plot, characters, and its reel-life world. ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Forrest Gump’ director Robert Zemeckis, who was associated with the original ‘Real Steel’ movie through his production company ImageMovers, will act as one of its executive producers besides Shawn Levy.

The 2011 film ‘Real Steel’ was essentially an endearing take on a father-son relationship smartly disguised in a sci-fi boxing flick. Set in a near-future world where robots have taken over the boxing ring, the movie’s plot follows a once glorious ex-boxer Charlie (Hugh Jackman) who is now struggling to make a living as a promoter. Charlie must team up with his estranged son Max and together they build and train an underdog robot boxer, which might be his last chance to redeem himself.

‘Real Steel’ was directed by Shawn Levy, who has also helmed films such as ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘Night at the Museum’, ‘Free Guy’, and a few episodes of the ‘Stranger Things’ series. The film also featured Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, and Dakota Goyo in pivotal roles.

Since the ‘Real Steel’ series is currently in the initial stages of development, nothing much can be said about the plot and cast members, etc. Whether the show would carry forward the parent film’s plotline or would serve as a sequel, or a spin-off, can only be speculated. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the ‘Real Steel’ series adaptation at Disney Plus.
