Taapsee Pannu led Shabaash Mithu is based on the life of highly celebrated Indian cricketer Mithali Raj. She is the very face of the Indian women’s cricket team and has remained so for a long time.
According to Netflix, it is even trending higher than Alia Bhatt’s phenomenally successful Darlings.
The movie as you know released on Netflix on the 12th of August. Not only that, but the film also landed on Voot Select on the same day. Seeing the subscriber base of Voot Select, it is pretty obvious that the film will garner an audience mostly from Netflix only.
Regardless, if we see the charts then Shabaash Mithu was the seventh most watched non-English film globally.
Although it was a debut week, the film garnered 3,360,000 hours of views which is too less for a film that has a star as prominent as Taapsee Pannu.
This is again a classic example of nominal promotion by Netflix. They hardly promoted the film, while Voot on the other hand did far better.
But whatever the case may be, Shabaash Mithu could perform much better than it actually did. But not all the blame goes to Netflix, even though the film was not that great and the lack of interest by the audience is also one of the driving forces.
