The much-talked-about Shah Rukh Khan – Atlee film has finally got a name. And it’s ‘Jawan’! Shah Rukh Khan officially revealed the title of the film on his social media handles, though the title ‘Jawan’ has been circulating unofficially since some time. Much to the delight of Shah Rukh Khan’s legions of fans, the superstar also revealed a sharp teaser and the release date of the film. Jawan will hit theatres worldwide, on June 2, 2023. The film will be a pan-India affair, to be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
The Jawan teaser, at 1:31 minutes, promises a stylish action entertainer, with Shah Rukh Khan at his best. The star looks like a lean, mean, killing machine in the teaser. His face is covered by bandages, leaving one eye uncovered, to convey grim intentions, and his mouth, that curls in a sneering laugh as he says, “Ready”.
The teaser of Jawan doesn’t let on much about Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the film. Is he a hero, or an anti-hero; predator or prey? One simply can’t tell from the short but sharp teaser. The look and feel of the teaser conveys a film made in the typical fashion of South Indian films – action set pieces in slow motion, symbolism via a beady-eyed pigeon, flying dust and what not.
However, to be very honest, the teaser of Jawan did not enthuse us as much as we expected it to. It left us distinctly underwhelmed and disappointed. To put it succinctly, it missed that ‘whoa’ factor – images that would make us go whoaaaaa.
Jawan is directed by Tamil director Atlee (Mersal, Bigil, Theri). The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, reportedly in a double role, along with Nayanthara, and Priyamani. Sunil Grover also has a prominent role in the film. Jawan is produced by Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. Incidentally, the teaser was leaked online yesterday, causing a flutter among Twitterati and Shah Rukh Khan fans. Red Chillies Entertainment moved quickly to stem the leak, though.
