One of the biggest hits in Bollywood this year, Badla starring Taapsee and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, is getting ready to make a splash on the digital platforms soon. While the movie, produced by Shah Rukh Khan, is already out on Google Play Movies on a rental basis, it is expected that the movie will stream on Netflix in a matter of weeks.
Another SRK production, Zero directed by Aanand L Rai also had followed a similar strategy prior to its digital release on Netflix. The rental basis provides the viewer with enough freedom to choose what content they want and pay accordingly, unlike other streaming platforms that force them to pay the monthly/yearly chunk of the subscription amount at once.
It is well known that Netflix and Redchillies have signed a deal for content-sharing and production of originals recently. More filmmakers could try accessing the pay-per-movie model before they reach out to other platforms. It not only ensures better affordability among users but also can take the film to more quarters.
