The first teaser for the hotly anticipated Shah Rukh Khan movie ‘Dunki’ is out this morning. Producers Red Chillies Entertainment treated SRK fans to the Dunki teaser, to mark the occasion of Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday today. The movie is directed by Rajkumar Hirani, his next after Sanju. Dunki releases in theatres on 22nd December, 2023.
The teaser for Dunki, nicknamed ‘Dunki Drop 1’, seems to be the first of several that Red Chillies Entertainment plans to release today on Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday. Dunki Drop 1 introduces us to the characters in the movie, starting from Shah Rukh Khan’s Hardy, to Taapsee’a Manu and Vicky Kaushal’s Sukhee. We also get glimpses of Boman Irani, Vikram Kochhar and Anil Grover in the teaser. Dharmendra, Dia Mirza, Satish Shah, Parikshit Sahni, among others, are the rest of the cast, though they are missing in Dunki Drop 1.
Hardy and his gang of friends want to immigrate to the West, like millions of youth in Punjab. They take recourse to the “Donkey Flight”, a backdoor means of getting into the UK, Canada, US illegally. The movie depicts the hurdles they face in getting there, and then their struggle to get back home. The Donkey Flight is colloquially termed ‘Dunki’.
The Dunki teaser has the unmistakable stamp of director Rajkumar Hirani all over it. From the humour to the emotions and the suspenseful drama, Hirani has poured it all into Dunki, his first film with King Khan.
Dunki is written by Rajkumar Hirani, along with Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon. The music for the film is composed by Pritam. The background score in the teaser is composed by Aman Pant.
