Shahid Kapoor To Go Mythical For Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra’s Upcoming Epic ‘Karna’

Looks like Shahid Kapoor is in love with mythical and ancient characters. After a brilliant performance as Maharawal Ratan Singh in Padmaavat in 2018, it’s now confirmed that he will play another ancient character in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Karna’.

We are still awaiting more news on this but Shahid will be playing the titular character for sure. The film will reportedly be based on the characters of Mahabharata and will explore the character of ‘Karna’ as an immortal and noble warrior, who had one of the most complicated lives amongst all the warriors in the epic.

‘Karna’ will be the third collaboration between Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Producer Ronnie Screwvala after Rang De Basanti and Delhi-6. For the story of ‘Karna’, Mehra joined hands with renowned mythological story teller, Anand Neelakantan who has previously worked on number of titles associated with Ramayana such as Vanara: The Legend of Baali, Sugreeva and Tara, Ajaya: Roll of the Dice and many more.

We haven’t receive any update from Shahid Kapoor himself on ‘Karna’ as the actor is extremely busy with the upcoming release of the Hindi remake of 2019NTelugu blockbuster Jersey and also the collaboration with Raj & DK for a web series but we sure as hell, excited with the news and imagining him again in a mythical outfit after seeing him earlier in Padmaavat.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on the other hand, is busy currently with the release of Farhan Akhtar starrer sports-drama Toofaan which is scheduled to release on 21st May, 2021 on Amazon Prime Video. This will be Mehra’s second union with Akhtar after the highly acclaimed sports biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag back in 2013.

Now how exciting the news is, one thing is for sure that the fans of Shahid Kapoor, who was last seen in Kabir Singh almost 2 years back, will have to wait with utter patience for another 2 years as ‘Karna’ reportedly is heading for a Diwali, 2023 release.
