Shazam 2 will release globally on March 17. Movie critics are brimming social media platforms with their reviews about the latest Zachary Levi starrer.
Warner Bros still has some DCEU projects left before the eye-catching but cluttered superhero franchise concludes. And the first project to commence the DCEU’s final era is ‘Fury of the Gods’. The Shazam family, led by Billy Batson, is returning to save the world from the wrath of Atlas’ daughters, Hespera and Kalypso. Additionally, the superhero group tries to stop the sisterly duo from using a weapon that could destroy the world.
Shazam 2 is not better than its predecessor. The sequel currently stands with a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But the Shazam family’s silly charm saves the day for the sequel.
Check out some of the early reactions to Shazam 2:
United Press International declared the sequel frustrating, suffering from a cluttered story:
Digital Spy’s Gabriella Geisinger called Fury of the Gods a “fun buddy comedy”. However, she was not impressed with the film’s final “muddy CGI battle”.
Cinemablend’s Eric Eisenberg hailed Shazam 2 as a “super fun and worthy sequel but not a game-changing one”.
Variety’s Courtney Howard called the film “a super-powered sequel that packs a punch”.
This is what Jamie Broadnax (a member of the Critics Choice Awards) said in her Shazam 2 review:
Helmed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Lucy Liu, Helen Mirren, and many more talents. Stay tuned for more updates.
