It’s here! Finally after 2 years, we got to see very little yet satisfying glimpses of the young-adult DC superhero Shazam, thanks to director David F. Sandberg.
Just a few hours ago, the director of 2019’s surprise hit DC superhero movie Shazam! took to twitter and shared a 17-seconds long humorous clip featuring Zachery Levi in a dark background captioning, “Coming soon…ish”. The clip doesn’t reveal much but it still was very satisfying to see Levi keeping the humor alive as the superhero.
The second installment of Shazam! named Shazam! Fury of the Gods was announced right after the release and immediate success of the first installment of the same. Zachery Levi along with Asher Angel will return to reprise their roles of Shazam and Billy Batson, respectively. The shooting of the film was expected to begin in mid-2020 but just like a lot of projects, this one also got delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic all over the world. In February 2021, it was confirmed that famed Youtuber Rachel Zegler was cast in an undisclosed “key role” and Mark Strong has also confirmed that he will not be returning as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana in this second installment of Shazam!
Apart from Levi, Angel and Zegler, the actors such as Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, Grace Fulton, Michelle Borth, Ian Chen, Ross Butler, Jovan Armand and D. J. Cotrona will return to reprise their roles as the Shazam family. The story isn’t revealed yet but we learnt that Henry Gayden has written the screenplay of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The film is produced by Peter Safran in association with New Line Cinema, DC Films, The Safran Company and Mad Ghost Productions.
Warner Bros. Pictures aimed for June 2, 2023 to release Shazam! Fury of the Gods but with the tweet of David F. Sandberg, we can sense that a trailer might be coming soon with Shazam in full-glory.
