Shekhar Home (Rather Sherlock Holmes) What To Expect?

Jio Cinema is coming tomorrow with a new original series named Shekhar Home. It has now been quite obvious that the show is a remaking of the Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The series will take most of its plot from the original saga itself. Looking at the excellent cast for the series and its captivating trailer, it becomes interesting to note what we can anticipate from the show and whether one should watch it or let it go.

The show casts Kay Kay Menon as the lead, and Ranvir Shorey acts as his confidante Jayvrat Sahni. The duo would be like the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, the character of Ranvir also being that of a doctor. Kay Kay’s charecterisation in the trailer seems somewhat like the Sherlock Holmes we saw in the show Sherlock played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Ranvir’s character too seems to be inspired from Martin Freeman’s version of Dr. Watson. Rasika Duggal is seen in the character of Iraboty which in its first impression reminds us of Irene Adler. Though looking at Rasika, it seems she is portraying her own version of Irene and not what is available in stock. The trailer of the series also mentions a character ‘M’ that, as is obvious, will be their own version of Professor Moriarty. The show is set in Bengal in a different timeline, before digital revolution happened. The setting of Bengal will remind us of Byomkesh as well along with Sherlock.

The show, through its trailer seems promising. Kay Kay Menon looks fantastic as Shekhar Home and Ranvir too looks great in his role. Rasika’s grace and expressions are a feast to look at, even though for a few second in the trailer; they foreshadow the great performance that will be coming out of her in the series. The setting looks very authentic and the creators efforted a lot in creating the old Bengal environment. Kay Kay, though is playing a character based on Sherlock Holmes, still leaves his own impression in the character. Menon mentioned in an interview as well, ““What was interesting was the character of Shekhar Home, who is not Sherlock Holmes per se. The script was basic in terms of the plot and Shekhar himself. That gave me the opportunity to bring in the quirks, the eccentricities, the unpredictability.”

The series will supposedly be a binge worthy and will grasp the viewers to their seats as they go through the ups and downs of the plots. We can only wish for the writing and direction to have been as good as it seems in the trailer. If it is indeed like that, one can expect a great experience.
