Indian fans of Shia LeBeouf are deeply disappointed at not being able to stream his brilliant semi-autobiographical film, Honey Boy, when their US counterparts will be able to on 7th February 2020, the date it is slated to premiere in the US on Prime Video.
Amazon Prime has not declared when the universally-acclaimed movie will be released in India.
Honey Boy is a moving portrayal of a kid who gains showbiz stardom early in his life, but has to bear tremendous abuse at the hands of his alcoholic, slightly maniacal father. The early stardom, coupled with the unrestrained abuse leads to the boy falling prey to harmful, self-destructive addictions and psychological issues at the tender age of 22.
The narrative borrows heavily from Shia LeBeouf’s own tempestuous life, beset with addictions, rehab stints, relapses and premature retirement from his film career, which thankfully did not sustain. The actor was diagnosed with PTSD, much like the protagonist of Honey Boy, who goes through all of the above.
The screenplay, written by LaBeouf, mirrors his own life story, chronicling the actor’s growing up years in painful detail. It must have been truly difficult for him to revisit his troubled past, but maybe in doing that, he’s found the closure he seeked.
Interestingly, Shia LaBeouf doesn’t play the protagonist in the movie. Instead, he plays the role of the abusive father, a character modeled after his own father. Quite intriguing, isn’t it?
Honey Boy has received rousing reviews from both critics as well as audiences. It is cinema at its best, making it one of the most-awaited movies on Prime Video.
Unfortunately, despite being major Shia LaBeouf fans courtesy his appearance in the Transformers franchise, audiences in India will have to wait some more time for Honey Boy to release on OTT. Well, we’re waiting, Amazon Prime Video India!
