‘Shine On’: Never Seen Before Glimpse Into A Horror Cult Classic!

American film director and screenwriter Stanley Kubrick is undeniably the king of compellingly unnerving narratives and through-provoking cinema. So much so, that nearly all of his features find themselves spots on lists that summarise the best of a particular genre. One of his titles that stand out rather spectacularly is the cult-favourite ‘The Shining’.

‘The Shining’ combines the best of all possible worlds. Not only is it based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel of the same name, it also stars big names like Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. It is a no-brainer that the film has gone on to become one of the most fascinating products of the horror-slasher-thriller genre.

To the absolute delight of fans, a 25-minute long (read: short) documentary, recently released on YouTube chronicles the last remaining filming site of the ‘best horror film of all time’. Made in collaboration with the Stanley Kubrick Film Archive, Elstree Studios, UAL, Warner Bros. Entertainment as well as the Kubrick family, ‘Shine On’ is an archival gem!

The documentary takes viewers on a never seen before trip into the physical production of the cult classic. Surprisingly, a major chunk of the film was shot in the sets constructed at the Elstree Studios in the UK and not the infamous Stanley Hotel in the Rocky Mountains!
