The official trailer for ‘Shirley’, starring Regina King, is out now. Netflix’s upcoming biographical drama will tell the story of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman to get elected to the United States Congress, and her 1972 presidential run.
Shirley is written and directed by John Ridley, who is best known for bagging an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 12 Years A Slave (2013), which starred the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Regina King’s take on Shirley Chisholm looks confident and impressive in the latest trailer. Apart from her, we see Lance Reddick, Terrence Howard, Lucas Hedges, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Andre Holland, Brad James, W. Earl Brown, and more. The film’s development commenced way back in February 2021.
Regina King won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 91st Academy Awards for her phenomenal performance in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ (2018). She may bag another Oscar for her performance in the forthcoming Netflix biopic.
Led by Regina King, Shirley is co-produced by Participant and Royal Ties Productions. Apart from leading the film, King has also served as one of the producers. It will arrive on Netflix on March 22, 2024. Stay tuned for more updates. Check out the trailer below!
