Needless to say, Drishyam is one of the finest films made in India. It is not only hugely successful commercially but is certainly a path breaking success that would be remembered for a long time to come.
Filmmakers today are fond of releasing their films in 5 languages but Drishyam was remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
The movie has been remade in Mandarin too. But, the big surprise came yesterday when the news of the film being remade in Korea broke.
The actor of the Oscar-winning film Song Kang Ho will lead the Korean remake.
But, there’s an interesting fact that we are missing. The Korean remake will not follow the Malayalam film. If you have happened to watch both Malayalam and Hindi versions then you would notice some changes in the script. Normally, Hindi remakes exaggerate some characters and that is precisely what happened.
So, the Korean remake will follow the screenplay of the Hindi version of Drishyam. So technically, a Korean remake is the remake of a remake.
Uff!!
Korea’s Anthology Studio along with Panorama Studio will jointly produce the Korean remake. As you may already know, Panorama Studios produced the Hindi version of Drishyam. With this, Drishyam becomes the first Hindi film to have ever been remade in Korea.
Also, Panorama is developing a third part of Drishyam whose remake rights are held by themselves.
Jay Choi from Anthology Studio stated: “We are thrilled to have an opportunity to remake a massively successful Hindi film with a touch of originality from Korean cinema. And the remake has greater significance as the first major co-production between Korea and India. Through our partnership, we will be able to bring the best of both Indian and Korean cinema and make a meaningful remake that is as excellent as the original.”
So the two takeaways from this: A third part of Drishyam is on the way and the Korean remake is actually the remake of Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam instead of Mohanlal’s.
