Basking in the glory of bagging four Golden Globes at the recently held 82nd edition of the prestigious award ceremony, Shogun has received encouraging news from showrunners Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks regarding Season 2. After winning a record-breaking 18 Emmys last year, the acclaimed FX series has added four Golden Globes to its accolades, including Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor – Drama (Hiroyuki Sanada).
A ScreenRant representative spoke with Kondo and Marks about the status of Shogun Season 2. The duo gave an encouraging update, much to the delight of the show’s massive fanbase.
Rachel Kondo: “Season 2 — it’s ongoing. We’re still trying. We haven’t given up. And… what can I say? I’m not sure what I can say.”
Justin Marks: “We’re about six weeks until the end of the writers’ room.”
Based on the showrunners’ recent updates, Season 2 may arrive sooner than expected on FX. However, much depends on Kondo and Marks, as they would not want to jeopardize the show’s prominence and storyline by rushing the writing process and overall production. Since the debut season was crafted with love and care, its follow-up will require even more attention and flawless execution, especially given Season 1’s success.
Details about Season 2’s storyline remain unclear. The show officially adapted the third of six published novels in James Clavell’s Asian Saga series. Even if Kondo and Marks skipped adapting the first two novels, three more novels remain to be explored. So far, only Sanada’s return as Lord Toranaga has been confirmed. It’s unclear how many characters from Season 1 will return in the sophomore season. Key events from the first two novels might also appear as flashbacks in the upcoming episodes. Let’s see what happens.
For Indian viewers, Shogun is available on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
