While we wait for the Emmys to air next week, the word of FXs Shogun ruling the biz right now is already out. It has already dethroned GOT, winning 14 Emmys among the 25 nominations! This is historical, as for a single season, this is the highest number of awards won. Along with FXs The Bear, Shogun has dominated the evening as one after the other the announcements kept on coming. Certainly a big win for FX.
Shogun carried home the awards for Best Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Period Costumes, Best Main Title Design, Best Picture Editing, Best Makeup (prosthetic), Best Casting for a Drama, Best Special Effects, Best Makeup (period/fantasy), Best Period/Fantasy Hairstyling, Best Stunt Performance, and the Best Guest Actor in a Drama.
The series is set in the feudal Japanese society of the 17th century. The political turmoil of the Edo period is shown beautifully. The stories of power struggle and honor split between the different characters have made their way into the hearts of many. FXs Shogun takes its roots from James Clavell’s novel of the same name, which was released in 1975.
The record for most Emmys belonged to 2008’s John Adams. Another historical drama about one of the founding fathers of the US got 13 of these awards. Now the crown is handed rightfully to Shogun. The Emmys will air on September 15 for the fans to witness history in the making.
