Badhaai Do is a new social comedy addition on Netflix. After the great success of Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, we saw the potential of social comedies even after a theatrical run.
Bollywood is known for making social comedies. The trend of making small budget films in small cities started post 2013 when films like Raanjhanaa and Vicky Donor turned out to be exceptionally well-received at the Box Office.
After that, it became a highly milked genre where a lot of movies were being made on some social issue with a funny screenplay. Unfortunately, the trend is continuing and we are yet to see a new innovative trend.
Regardless, the film is now streaming on Netflix and you may wonder whether you should really consider watching the film.
It is not a great film, to begin with. The film is just the continuation of something that we are seeing right since 2015. So if you are a cinephile then you are bound to be disappointed by the sheer lack of newness that the film is dry with.
However, we can’t ignore the fact that it talks about some of the most important social issues in our country. Homophobia and stigmas around child adoption still need a lot of conversation about them to help people think about their attitude.
Thus this can be a good one time watch but yet again, it is skippable.
