According to showrunner Craig Mazin, HBO’s The Last of Us will be “around for a while”. It means the fans may get more than two seasons of the show.
Mazin and four other key members of the apocalyptic drama’s production team recently appeared at an hour-long panel about the show at the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas. The group did not reveal the Season 2 teaser but did disclose some exciting details about the show’s future. Plus, they offered their insights about what made the first season such a tremendous success, including the show’s cinematography, editing, visual effects, and sound.
When asked about The Last of Us’s future, Mazin replied they had “quite a bit of story to tell” in the hit video game adaptation. “Our plan is to do it not just for one more season,” he disclosed. “We should be around for a while.”
The first season ended on a highly emotional note. At the beginning of Season 1’s finale, Joel reveals that he had tried to take his life in the past after losing his daughter. He didn’t know why he was surviving. But thanks to Ellie, he has a reason to live now.
Joel and Ellie go to the Fireflies to help them take care of the Cordyceps infection. However, everything changes after the former learns that Fireflies plan to sacrifice Ellie to get Cordyceps’ cure. In response, Joel wreaks havoc and kills every last one of the Fireflies, including Marlene.
During the final moments of Episode 9, Joel lies to Ellie about the Fireflies. If she discovers Joel lied to her, their relationship could be jeopardised in Season 2.
HBO’s The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Stay tuned for more updates.
