One of the actors from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), Harvey Guillén, has teased his return in the highly-anticipated DreamWorks’ Shrek 5. The planned fifth Shrek entry will serve as a direct sequel to Shrek Forever After (2010), which starred the likes of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews, and Antonio Banderas.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Harvey Guillén discussed Perrito’s return in Shrek 5. The actor strongly believes Perrito could be a strong addition to the upcoming sequel. Guillén does not know anything about the movie, but he wants to reprise his role of Perrito. This is what he said:
“Oh, absolutely. 100%. I mean, I think we want to hear, I want to hear Perrito’s origin story. When did that whole thing happen with the sock? I want to know a little bit of a backstory there and what happened, and how he got that scar on his tummy. I still don’t know how he got that. If you look at the poster he’s lifting up his sweater, he has a little scar on his tummy, and I was like, how did you get that?”
Guillén joined DreamWorks’ Shrek franchise through Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, which turned out to be a surprising hit at the global box office. It earned over $485 million globally and received critical acclaim. Guillén played Perrito in The Last Wish, a small dog who later becomes Puss’ ally and friend.
Shrek 5 may feature the return of Antonio Banderas’ Puss, which may further pave the way for Harvey Guillén’s return as Perrito.
Plot details about Shrek 5 are scarce right now. DreamWorks has yet to make an official announcement regarding its release window. However, many believe the fifth Shrek entry will arrive in theatres in late 2025 or early 2026. Stay tuned for more updates.
