Shyam Singha Roy Trailer: Doesn’t Pack A Punch

Shyam Singha Roy happens to be the costliest project in Nani‘s career. The periodic action drama is slated for theatrical release on the 24th of December. In a bid to amp up the promotional campaign, the makers of the Nani starrer unveiled the theatrical trailer a short while ago. But it needs to be said that the trailer doesn’t pack the desired punch. There is grandeur but there isn’t a binding force that gels it all together.

The trailer is set across two varying timelines and as one would expect, Nani is seen in two contrasting avatars. He plays a contemporary lad, who aspires to become a filmmaker and also an unapologetic rebel, who fights against the infamous Devadasi system that was prevalent in Kolkata in the 1970s. The reincarnation concept is the focal point, the trailer implies.

The visual storytelling is spotless, thanks to the cinematographer Sanu John Varghese. But what the trailer really lacks is the driving force. We see two contrasting set-ups and varying timelines. There is a bit of action as well. But the required X factor that is expected of any trailer isn’t quite there. The trailer doesn’t have the impetus to pull the audience to the theatres. The technical finesse isn’t backed by the intrigue factor. That said, there appear to be a handful of strong central characters in the film, which could potentially prove to be the deciding factor as the periodic drama hits the marquee.

Shyam Singha Roy is a periodic actioner directed by Rahul Sankrityan and it has Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty, Madonna Sebastian, and others in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Rahul Sankrityan and it is funded by Venkat Boyanpalli.
