After a lull in his career, Sidharth Malhotra seems to have finally pulled his act together. The actor is getting great reviews upon the trailer release of his upcoming film, ‘Shershaah’. From modeling to starting out in the industry as Karan Johar’s trainee assistant director, Sidharth has come a long way. He was touted to be the next big thing when he made his debut with Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012. The past few years have been difficult for Sidharth, with his movies unfortunately tanking at the box office, despite being cast alongside big names from the industry. The last real hit he gave was Karan Johar’s ‘Kapoor and Sons’ in 2016.
The actor has now called off his nine-year-long association with Reshma Shetty’s talent agency Matrix Entertainment, who has been handling his work profile since his acting debut. Sidharth has now decided to take complete charge of his work and associations. He will now personally curate his portfolio, along with his team, and oversee his brand management instead of delegating it to an external agency. There is no clarity, however, as to why the move has been made now, but it looks like the positive reviews of ‘Shershaah’ seem to have really motivated him to take charge. Sources say that the actor seems confident of his decision.
While he has decided to go independent for the time being, it will not come as a surprise if he soon announces his association with Karan Johar’s recently launched talent agency, in partnership with Bunty Sajdeh instead- Dharma Cornerstone Agency. In fact, entertainment journalist, Rajeev Masand had joined DCA as its COO after he quit journalism. Only a few months old, they have already introduced their first four talents- Shanaya Kapoor, Tripti Dimri, Gurfateh Pirzada, and TV actor Lakshya Lalwani, and also have Mrunal Thakur and Dhairya Karwa in their kitty. It is expected that with time, actors associated with Dharma will join DCA, sooner or later.
It is no secret that Sidharth’s association with Karan Johar goes long beyond his debut film. He entered the film industry in 2010 as a trainee assistant director, assisting Johar in his film ‘My Name Is Khan’. Sidharth’s upcoming film ‘Shershaah’ will mark his first real-life biopic, that will see him in the role of Late Captain Vikram Batra. The film is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and the team is leaving no stone unturned in promoting it. Well, we wish Sidharth good luck and success for ‘Shershaah’ and all his future ventures.
