Sikh Organizations Call For Ban On Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’!

The SGPC or Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has demanded a ban over the upcoming film ‘Emergency’ starring Kangana Ranaut. The trailer for the movie has raised some controversies and a few Sikh bodies claim that the movie is outright misinterpreting leaders of the community and disrespecting the community. Apart from SGPC, the Alal Takht, another Sikh Organization has called out for a ban on the movie.

The SGPC chief has said that ‘Emergency’ is deliberately showing Sikhs in a bad light and tries to express a certain political bias through the film but villainising them.

Kangana Ranaut plays the role of Indira Gandhi who had some controversial steps taken during the Khalistani movement that had some Sikh separatist leaders. Gandhi was later killed by her Sikh bodyguards. The issue is very sensitive and it demands equally sensitive portrayal in film. But Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ seems to be politically motivated and does not have the historical subtlety.

SGPC has requested the government to take the movie down and to not allow such biased narratives to be released on such a scale. The organisation has also demanded legal action against Kangana Ranaut and makers of the film.

Emergency also stars actors like Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and Satish Kaushik. The movie is expected to release (well! Not by the Sikhs) on the 6th of September this year.
