Kappela, one of 2020’s hit Malayalam movies has been hot in the market for the rights of its remake. Kappela has been a huge hit for the Malayalam industry, ever since the movie was released. Kappela was the directorial debut of director Muhammad Musthafa, who is also credited as the writer for the movie. Kappela was released in theatres on 6th March 2020 but was unable to continue its run, due to the onset of the pandemic. Kappela started streaming on Netflix on June 22, 2020, and easily entered India’s Top 10 list.
The movie has been a hot property for remakes for its unique and amazing story. While there’s not much news from the other industries, the Telugu industry announced the movie’s remake last year. Last year, in July, producer Vishnu Venu, took to the film’s social media account and announced that the Telugu rights for the movie have been bought by Sithara Entertainments. This makes “Kappela”, the third movie from the Malayalam movie industry to be brought by Sithara Entertainments, after Premam and Ayyappanum Koshiyum. The production house is the home to hit Telugu films like Allu Arjun’s “Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo”, Nani’s “Jersey” and other hits.
The official Telugu remake has been finally launched today. The movie is supposed to go on the floors by early next year. The makers were on a constant lookout for actors to take on the roles of two male protagonists of the movie. Now, it seems like Arjun Das and Siddhu Jonnalagadda have officially been finalized for the lead roles. Siddhu Jonnalagadda was present at the movie launch pooja ceremony today. Director Trivikram Srinivas also graced the auspicious occasion.
The makers have yet not finalized as to who will play the role essayed by Anna Ben in the original movie. Rumors are ripe that the makers are on the lookout for two Malayalam actresses and the decision will soon be finalized. But, again that is a rumor and there might be a chance that someone else is roped in for the movie. As for the director, the movie is supposed to be directed by one of Sukumar’s Assistant Directors, but again, it’s too early for any sort of confirmation.
But, even with few uncertainties, the movie has at least found its leading stars in Arjun Das and Siddhu Jonnalagada, the two dashing young men of the Southern film industry. Siddhu was last seen in the movie “Maa Vintha Gaadha Vinuma ” and is famous for his role in “Krishna and His Leela ”. As for Arjun Das, he is famous for his roles in “Kaithi”, “Andhaghaaram” and the recent Vijay starrer “Master”. For the remake, Arjun Das will apparently be seen in the role of the villain, while Siddhu will be seen essaying the role of the good guy.
There are also reports that a Tamil remake “Kappela” might be in the works too. As for the original movie, the lead roles were essayed by Anna Ben, Sreenath Bhasi, and Roshan Mathew. The original is still available to stream on Netflix.
