Sivakarthikeyan starrer ‘Doctor‘ has beaten all records to emerge as what we can call the first Kollywood blockbuster post the second Covid wave. The film that performed exceedingly well on its first weekend, has lived up to expectations and continues to enjoy a great run at the box office. It has managed to give stiff competition to the Arya starrer, ‘Aranmanai 3’ that released last week, so much so, that the sixth day collections of ‘Doctor’ also turned out higher than the first day figures of the horror comedy. The film currently unstoppable at the box office may well go on to become the first 100 crore grosser post the second Covid wave.
The bilingual ‘Doctor’, that deals with organ trafficking and kidnapping, has been widely appreciated and saw a collection of over 8 crores on the first day in Tamil Nadu itself. With great reviews and word of mouth, the film managed to see massive weekday collections too, right upto the second week run and continues to do so. The film has managed to gross a whopping 80 crores worldwide in its 12 day run so far, the total India grossing being 65 crores and 15 crores being the overseas figure. Interestingly, the Telugu version of ‘Doctor’ titled ‘Varun Doctor’ too, has managed to do well and give decent competition to the more recent Tollywood releases, ‘Maha Samudram‘, ‘Most Eligible Bachelor‘ and ‘Pelli SandaD’.
At this rate, the film may well go on to reach the 100 crore mark soon. With cinema theatres still recording housefull shows, ‘Doctor’ has managed to achieve the unthinkable. Bookings for the third week are also in full swing and trade analysts are expecting the 100 crore target by the coming weekend. What also helps is the fact that there are no other major Tamil releases this week or the following one. The fact that ‘Doctor’ is trending on social media even almost two weeks after release is no ordinary feat. It’ll be interesting to see how soon this 100 crore mark is achieved.
