One of the most awaited Kollywood releases, actor Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Doctor‘ is just a day away from its theatrical release and the issues with multiplexes are still not resolved. The film helmed by director Nelson Dilipkumar (of ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ & ‘Beast’ fame) is touted to be a medical crime-thriller and is all set to release in theatres tomorrow, October 9th. While single screen theatres are recording a great response, fans are distressed with the fact that some multiplex chains are still not taking bookings. Read on to know what the issue is.
The bilingual that deals with organ trafficking and kidnapping, had been lying on shelves for a while due to the pandemic and is all set to release simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu (as ‘Varun Doctor’). However, even as team ‘Doctor’ is just a day away from release, their woes don’t seem to be ending. Even as bookings overseas in Malaysia, US and UAE are looking promising, our Indian multiplexes are playing villain yet again. After threatening the release of Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Thalaivii’, they are stalling bookings for ‘Doctor’ as well. Although, some Inox theatres have started taking bookings, PVR still shows no sign of budging. Apparently, some last minute negotiations are on with the makers for an additional 5% in profits.
Agitated netizens have taken to social media to criticize the multiplex chains for their behavior, but one can’t fathom how harrowing the experience must be for filmmakers trying to support cinema theatres and avoiding an OTT release, despite getting lucrative offers. For the unversed, crime thriller ‘Doctor’ is produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions and co-produced by KJR Studios. The film also stars Vinay Rai, Priyanka Arul Mohan (in her Tamil debut), Yogi Babu and Milind Soman in important roles. Reportedly, the issues may be resolved by this evening and bookings should start. We wish team ‘Doctor’ all the best and hope the film sees a smooth release.
