Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming science fiction movie ‘Ayalaan’ has just announced its release date. The comedy drama has grabbed the much-in-demand Diwali 2023 date to hit theatres across the country. Moreover, ‘Ayalaan’ is planned as a pan-India release, and will premiere in theatres in the original Tamil, along with Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi dubbed versions.
Interestingly, no prominent Bollywood film has booked the Diwali release date slot as yet. This is quite surprising because Diwali is an even bigger auspicious release date in Bollywood than in the South film industries, which consider Dussehra and Pongal as bigger festive occasions to release their films.
That said, ‘Ayalaan’ is as yet the only South Indian biggie film to announce its release on Diwali 2023. No other South industry film has grabbed the coveted release period yet.
However, ‘Ayalaan’ is on course to set up a three-way clash at the box office, especially the Tamil box office. Two other buzzy Tamil films with big Tamil stars have intentions to pick Diwali 2023 as their chosen release date. The films are Dhanush’s ‘Captain Miller’ and Karthi’s ‘Japan’. Both films are almost complete, and eyeing a Diwali 2023 release date.
Dhanush’s ‘Captain Miller’ is a period action drama, directed by exciting young director Arun Matheswaran; while Karthi’s ‘Japan’ is a heist thriller, directed by Raju Murugan. If all three films release on Diwali 2023 as speculated, they will certainly eat into each other’s business, not just in their native Tamil Nadu, but also in their fellow South states.
It must also be noted that last year too Karthi avd Sivakarthikeyan had clashed at the Diwali box office. Karthi’s Sardar had stolen a march of Sivakarthikeyan’s Prince at that time.
‘Ayalaan’ is centred on an alien who lands on Earth, and wants to go back home. He finds a friend in Sivakarthikeyan’s character, and what follows forms the comedy and drama part of the film. ‘Ayalaan’ is written and directed by R Ravikumar. Rakul Preet Singh portrays the female lead opposite Sivakarthikeyan. AR Rahman has composed the music.Rakul Preet Singh, Karunakaran, Yogi Babu, Sharad Kelkar, Isha Koppikar, Banupriya, Balasaravanan, among others, form the rest of the cast.
‘Ayalaan’ is produced by 24AM Studios and distributed by KJR Studios. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film. ‘Ayalaan’ is touted to have the highest number of CGI shots for a pan-India film. It will also be the first full-length live-action film in Indian cinema to have over 4500+ VFX shots with the alien character playing a pivotal role throughout the movie.
