Snowdrop: Fans Want All Episodes and Tamil, Telugu Dubs

Over the last year, Korean Shows (K-dramas) have gained in popularity in India. Netflix has been at the forefront in releasing Korean language shows and movies for Indian audiences. Netflix even dubbed one of its most popular shows – Squid Game – in regional Indian languages such as Tamil and Telugu.

Looking at the rising interest in Korean shows, Disney+Hotstar recently released a Korean show – Snowdrop – for its audiences in India. Adapted from the handwritten notes of a man who escaped from a political prison camp in North Korea, Snowdrop is set against the backdrop of the 1987 Democracy Movement in South Korea.

The show is nowhere as popular as some of the other Korean Shows such as Squid Game and Kingdom. However, Snowdrop has been mired in controversy in South Korea as it is being accused of being insensitive to Korean History. This has led to a buzz around the show.

Fans were intrigued when they found that Disney+Hotstar is releasing a Korean show. The first episode of this controversial drama was released on February 9 with new episodes to be released every week on Wednesday. The show is available in Korean and Hindi audio with subtitles in English.

However, fans have been demanding that Disney+Hotstar drop all the episodes of the show for them to binge watch. The show has a total of 16 episodes. Disney+ in the US made available all 16 episodes at once for viewers to stream. Fans also want the show to be made available in regional Indian languages such as Tamil and Telugu. Shows such as Squid Game have created a market for such shows across varied audiences.

Maybe, paying heed to these demands will make the show a success in India and beneficial to the platform.
