Sofia Coppola’s latest directional, Priscilla, will close this year’s Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. The film will come out in Indian theatres through a partnership between MUBI and PVR Inox. The former platform owns the film’s rights in the country. Apart from India, MUBI owns the rights in Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, Latin America, Ireland, and more.
Priscilla got its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival in August.
The announcement surfaced on the fourth day of the festival.
Priscilla is Sofia Coppola’s ninth feature directional project. Taking inspiration from the 1985 novel, Elvis and Me, the biographical drama stars Cailee Spaeny in the leading role. Apart from the leading lady, the film has other talents like Jacob Elordi, Dagmara Dominczyk, Luke Humphrey, Dan Beirne, and more.
Elordi is the second man to play the iconic Elvis Presley on the big screen. Austin Butler played the big man in Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biographical drama, Elvis, for which he also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Coppola’s latest flick has received critical acclaim, receiving a “fresh” score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 86 reviews. Critics have highly praised Cailee Spaeny’s performance in the leading role, hailing her as a strong contender for the awards season.
Priscilla will come out in Indian theatres on November 3. Stay tuned for more updates.
